Purpose:
Outreach and Continuing Education is a department within Western Washington University that aims to create a positive impact for people of all ages through inclusive development that includes local, regional, and international learning opportunities. For over 100 years Outreach and Continuing Education has been supporting professional and community learning with the goal to create lifelong learners that are community driven.
Project role:
Within the Outreach and Continuing Education department I worked in the marketing unit as a visual designer for one year. I worked on an array of different marketing campaigns that included Youth Programs (rebranding), an International Exchange Program, and I helped with advertising different degree options as well. I collaborated with the senior visual designer, multiple writers, and the director of the department often to ensure project goals and timelines were promptly met.
Software used:
Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
Previous Youth Programs Branding
I was responsible for delivering a new concept to rebrand the Youth Programs within Western Washington University. The director of the department had a vision that the new brand would look cleaner & brighter, and overall be visually appealing to not only children, but parents as well. First, I began to look through the previous branding and I noticed there were several key items that needed to be changed. I saw that there were many typefaces being used on one advertisement, creating a chaotic look. The previous branding used many rectangular shapes, which created many sharp and abrupt angles. I gathered my information and setout to create a new brand that would use brighter colors, organic shapes, and overall a minimal aesthetic. The two images below are advertisements from the previous Youth Programs branding.
